currently having to start the dreaded job search. i figured a quick and easy way to give an overview of what i've been up to while i've been here would be to post my resume (of course it looks a lot nicer than this through Word). and if any of you are employers and want to give me a job, go for it.

Wow - that is quite a resume! I'm making a move to Belize in a year or two. My fiance is being deported from the US and so whether or not I should go is off the table...I'm going.

I was searching the web and found your blog. I feel.......so under qualified after reading your resume. I'm wondering what type of work I would qualify for there and perhaps you can shed some light. I have a BS in Human Services and have been working as a Career Services Rep with a population of "hard to place" people in the city of Chicago.

Any ideas? Am I doomed?

Ericka- First of all, while I'm sorry to hear about your situation, Belize is a wonderful country and I wish you the best and hope you fall in love with it the way I did. That being said, the only reason I was handed a job in Belize was because it was my Peace Corps assignment... and because it was unpaid. If you were looking for a volunteer position, there are plenty of organizations looking for help.
As far as paid work goes, I unfortunately am not knowledgeable in that area. If you're willing to teach or at least work in the education sector, you could look into private schools. I know of a few Americans who were able to secure paid teaching positions. Perhaps a career services gig at the junior college or University level? Just throwing out ideas. And of course the tourism industry's big... Many ex-pats own businesses in the big tourist areas down there (guided tours, restaurants, hotels). Maybe you're not ready to start your own business, but perhaps you could work for someone who was once in your shoes...
While there's not a big job market in Belize (by any means), I'd like to think we're only doomed if we declare it so, so keep your chin up and start your search asap. And if your fiance has any contacts there, it's a small country and "everybody knows everybody."
Buena suerte. Best of luck to you. And say hi to Belize for me, will ya?
:)
Jenny
